Rules and Disclaimers

Please Note: You may not enter the competition unless you agree to all these Rules and Disclaimers.  By entering, you acknowledge that you have read and agree with these Rules and Disclaimers.

JUDGING
Entries will be judged against all other entries in the same division and category.  The three judging criteria are: Technical (25 pts.), Thematic Relevance to Movement (25 pts.), Innovation and Overall Impact (50 pts.).  Scores will be averaged to the .1 of a point.  In the case of ties, the Innovation and Overall Impact scores will be used as tie-breakers.  Jurors’ decisions are final; in the event a tie may not be broken by scoring, the Photo Coordinator will decide on Winners.

  • DIVISIONS – You may choose only one division, amateur or professional, for all your entries.
  • AGE RESTRICTION – You must be at least 18 years of age to enter.  Information about photography competitions for those under 18 to exhibit at the L.A. County Fair will be available by visiting www.lacountyfair.com
  • ENTERING ON BEHALF OF SOMEONE ELSE – If you enter a photograph on behalf of another person, you agree to accept the risk, damages, and shipping costs associated with entering this competition and resulting exhibit.  You also agree that permission has been given to you, prior to entering, by the photographer, to enter the photograph in this competition on behalf of him/her.
  • CATEGORIES – You may enter photos in as many categories as you’d like; however each photo entered may only be entered into one category.  At the Coordinator’s discretion, your photo may be shifted to a different category if deemed more appropriate.
  • ENTRY LIMITS – There is no limit to the number of photographs you may enter.
  • ENTRY FEES – Entry fees are non-negotiable.  We regret that we are unable to accommodate circumstances of financial hardship.  The only exception is the student discount.
  • STUDENT DISCOUNT – You are eligible to enter as a student if you are currently attending any school on a full-time basis.  Entries will be judged the same as other entries, and your status will not be revealed to judges.  To receive the student group discount, a teacher/administrator must email the Photo Coordinator with his/her name, school name, position, and school phone extension, as well as a list of 10 entries (titles only) with the respective names of entrants.  The teacher/administrator will receive a code to distribute to students at his/her school.  He/she may distribute this code to other students at the same school at his/her discretion.  No limit to number of entries from a single school.  At the time of entry, students must provide the entry code, school name and expected graduation year to receive the discounted rate of $3 per entry.  Email Photo Coordinator at photography@fairplex.com.
  • EXHIBIT – Exhibition of your work is at the sole discretion of the Photography Coordinator.  If your work is damaged in transit, does not arrive on time, or does not match the entry image, MSCAF reserves the right not to exhibit it.
  • INSURANCE – All works to be exhibited at the L.A. County Fair will NOT be insured on premises or in transit.  You may purchase transit coverage from your chosen shipping service at your own expense.  Therefore you accept any risk or cost for damage incurred in transit or while your work is on exhibition here.  We will make every effort to protect photographs on display and to preserve original shipping packaging when storing or returning your work by mail to you.
  • SHIPPING – If you agree to exhibit your work, the cost of shipping to MSCAF and return shipping is your responsibility, except in case of the 1st place winners of each category, who will receive a $100 shipping credit if they agree to participate in the exhibit.  We are not responsible for loss or damages occurring in transit.  Return shipping must be prepaid by photographer prior to shipping, either with prepaid shipping label and shipping materials in good shape or by providing credit card information to the Coordinator prior to October 31st, 2008.
  • RETURN OF WORK – If you do not claim your work or pay for return shipping of your work by the deadline of October 31st, 2008, you by default agree to donate your work to MSCAF for use at its disposal.  If you want someone else to pick up your work for you, please submit the name of that person and the date they will arrive in writing to the Coordintaor via email to: photography@fairplex.com.
  • SALES OF PHOTOGRAPHS – A standard commission of 25% (before tax) per photo sold will be retained by MSCAF for processing and facilitating sales of artwork.  The photographer will receive a check in the mail or by hand, if requested, by October 31st, 2008 for any sales made.
  • USE OF IMAGES AND TEXT – By entering, you agree to allow MSCAF to reproduce your photograph(s) in any form for educational or promotional purposes, including but not limited to: press releases, workshop materials, PowerPoint presentations, exhibition brochures, flyers, event invitations, posters, online exhibit.  Images reproduced will carry the photographer’s credit line.  Text provided in captions and artist statements may be edited for grammatical errors and formatting uniformity.
