Multicultural Undergraduate Summer Internship 2008

The Exhibits Internship provides a paid opportunity to gain experience in art exhibition planning from research through installation! The intern will work on two exhibits opening at the L.A. County Fair, September 5-28, 2008. The internship will primarily be focused on Photography at High Speed, an exhibit which will feature the winners of the annual photography competition, as well as a highlighted history of photography. Additionally, the intern will assist with the exhibit HOOFPRINTS. The intern will report directly to the Photography Coordinator. The Getty Foundation will sponsor several career development and networking events throughout the summer through which the intern will meet other interns and arts administration professionals.
Preferred Skills: Successful candidates should possess exceptional time management, computer, oral/written English communication skills, and an enthusiasm for sharing art with nontraditional audiences. Website experience is highly desirable. Previous experience or education in the visual arts is not necessary. Training will be provided.
About the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts:
The Millard Sheets Center for the Arts at Fairplex (MSCAF) is a NON-PROFIT organization that has produced exhibits and educational programs for the L.A. County Fair since 1922, with an audience of nearly 1.4 million in recent years. MSCAF presents contemporary as well as historical art in various styles and media including painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, video, ceramics, drawing, architecture, and design. Educational programs include interpretive programs of exhibitions with audio and docent-led tours, lectures, and hands-on workshops. Year-round programs have included panel discussions, formal art-making classes, film screenings, and special exhibits.
Internship Terms and Eligibility:
- Intern will receive a $3,500 stipend in total for the summer, to be paid in weekly installments.
- Internship will take place some time between June 2 – August 22, 2008 (exact dates will be discussed at interview) and applicant must be available to work 10 consecutive weeks (40 hrs./wk., Mon.-Fri.).
- Applicant must live in or attend college in Los Angeles County.
- Applicant must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student and have completed at least one semester of college by June 2008 and will not graduate before December 2008.
- Applicant must be able to provide original documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.
